For clients in Los Angeles, we’re pleased to offer in-person delivery or showroom pickup by appointment.

Returns must be shipped via overnight or priority international service, fully insured, and at the buyer’s expense. A label will be provided and a restocking fee may apply. All returns must be received in the original condition as when shipped.

Yes, Hublot is cool.

Hublot began with a simple but rather brave idea. In 1980, Carlo Crocco’s MDM Genève introduced a watch that placed a precious metal case on a black rubber strap, taking some cues from the round porthole of a ship. That combination feels familiar now, but at the time it sat well outside the usual codes of Swiss watchmaking. The MDM watches of the 1980s and 1990s are interesting today because they show Hublot before the Big Bang era: quiet, slim, and more design-led than many people remember or realize. The whole idea was the fusion of opposites: rubber and metal, steel and gold, casualness and formality, harshness and delicacy. It was an ideal undeniably achieved.

This Ref. 1581.2 belongs to that early language. The 36mm case is made in stainless steel with 18k yellow gold accents, giving the watch a dressed-down two-tone character. It's The porthole bezel, exposed screws, screwed lug plates, and integrated black rubber strap all speak directly to Crocco’s original concept. It is a compact watch by modern standards, but at 44mm lug-to-lug and only 8mm thick, it maintains a low, easy profile that made the MDM line feel so distinct.

The black dial is restrained. Gold hands and matching print and logo exude warmth against, while the date window at 3 o’clock keeps the layout practical. It was an era before Hublot became defined by larger cases and more overtly technical designs. The result is a watch that feels more Riviera than boardroom, but still polished enough to wear with a jacket. Sometimes, when it all comes together, everything can really
