The acrylic crystal is in good vintage condition with a slight chip near the 12 o'clock marker.

The dial is in good vintage condition with some slight discoloration around the edges of the dial from age.

The fully-serviced manual-winding calibre by Universal Geneve is in excellent condition.

Timepieces are packed in our Los Angeles showroom, and then shipped with fully-insured 1 or 2-Day shipping via FedEx within 5 business days of purchase. An adult signature is required upon delivery to ensure coverage. Expedited shipping options are available for an additional fee. For clients in Los Angeles, we’re pleased to offer in-person delivery or showroom pickup by appointment.

Returns must be shipped via overnight or priority international service, fully insured, and at the buyer’s expense. A label will be provided and a restocking fee may apply. All returns must be received in the original condition as when shipped.

Universal Genève is best known today for its chronographs and the Polerouter, but some of the manufacture’s most interesting watches emerged when it began experimenting with the more architectural forms of the late 1960s and 1970s. This was a period when traditional round cases were increasingly giving way to tonneau, cushion, and integrated designs, and Universal Genève proved particularly adept at adapting its restrained Geneva aesthetic to the changing tastes of the era. By this point, the manufacture had also established itself as one of Switzerland’s great specialists in thin watchmaking, introducing the remarkably slim automatic Calibre 66 in 1966.

This stainless steel example captures that transition especially well. Its broad tonneau-shaped case has the distinctly modernist quality associated with the period, yet at just 28mm across and 6.2mm thick, it remains remarkably elegant on the wrist. Rather than relying on ornamentation, the design is defined by proportion: a wide horizontal stance, gently curved case sides, and an exceptionally slim profile that allows it to wear almost like a piece of jewelry.

The original silver dial is similarly restrained. Fine black baton indexes are paired with pointed baton hands, creating a clean monochromatic composition that allows the unusual case shape to take precedence.

Inside is Universal Genève’s manually wound Calibre 1-42, a 17-jewel movement that has been fully serviced. Manual winding feels particularly appropriate here. Without the additional thickness required by an automatic winding system, the movement allows the case to retain the slender proportions that are central to the watch’s appeal.

This Universal Genève is a reminder of how much depth exists beyond the company’s headline models. It comes from a period when Swiss watchmakers were reconsidering what a dress watch could look like, moving away from purely classical forms toward slimmer, more graphic, and increasingly architectural designs. Compact, unusual, and beautifully restrained, it is an appealing expression of Universal Genève at one of the most stylistically adventurous moments in its history.
