Condition Report

Case:
This example features full and symmetrical lugs and is in excellent vintage condition. It has been expertly cleaned by one of our technicians, and was not polished by us, but was likely lightly polished in the past. There are some light hairline scratches on the back of the case, and a small amount of pitting, in addition to general normal-to-light wear distributed evenly throughout the case.

Dial:
The original silver dial is crisp with attractive lume. There are some very small spots from oxidation and miscellaneous marks distributed evenly across the dial, in addition to a few very light scratches. The crystal is in excellent condition. The minute hand has a tiny couple of spots of missing black lacquer.

Movement:
The fully-serviced automatic-winding calibre by Omega is in excellent condition.

Bracelet:
This watch comes on an aftermarket 19mm light brown leather textured strap.

In the late 1960s Omega took a bold step in the evolution of one of its most important lines with a design that feels both of its era and surprisingly modern today. The Omega Constellation reference ST168.017SP is a refined interpretation of the “C-shaped” case, a form closely associated with legendary designer Gerald Genta at a moment when he was redefining sports and dress watches alike for major Swiss maisons. While Omega built its reputation on precision and tradition, this piece encapsulates a period when the brand was willing to experiment with silhouette and proportion to keep the Constellation ahead of the curve. To do this, Omega collaborated with Genta.

The watch wears with a subtle confidence. Its stainless steel tonneau case and original silver sunburst dial radiates light in a way that’s tactile and engaging, punctuated by applied steel elongated batons with black lacquer centers and luminous dots that offer clarity without fuss. Pointed baton hands echo the markers, creating a coherent and legible vista at a glance.

The so-called “C-shape” was a departure from the more classic round and pie-pan forms of earlier Constellations. Its slightly softened tonneau profile and updated design cues hinted at the stylistic shift underway in the late 1960's across Swiss watchmaking. The case’s elegant curvature and the way it frames the dial reveal an attention to harmony and proportion that Genta was becoming known for long before his later icons arrived.
