Case:
This example features symmetrical lugs and is in superb vintage condition. It has been expertly cleaned by one of our technicians, and was not polished by us, but may have been very lightly polished in the past. There are some light hairline scratches, and normal-to-light wear distributed evenly throughout the case, but the watch remains extremely crisp and sharp.

Dial:
The dial is in superb original condition with some very light spotting from age distributed evenly throughout the dial.

Movement:
The fully-serviced automatic-wind calibre by Omega is in excellent condition.

Bracelet:
This watch comes on a 18mm brown suede strap with a steel buckle.

Introduced in 1948 as a civilian evolution of waterproof watches developed for the British military during the Second World War, the Seamaster began life as a practical, quietly elegant daily wristwatch rather than the overtly professional dive instrument it would later become. By the early 1960s, Omega was in the process of rationalizing its reference system into the new six digit format that would define the brand’s output for decades to come, and references such as the 579014 belong to this transitional period where mid century dress watch proportions met increasingly robust automatic calibres from the 500 series. The result was a family of watches that maintained the restrained visual language of the 1950s while quietly moving toward the modern sports watch era that would follow later in the decade.

The Seamaster had already been in continuous production for well over a decade by 1962, and the present reference 579014 reflects the line's balance of sport and dress particularly well through its French made 18k rose gold case. its French hallmark is a detail that speaks to Omega’s period practice of commissioning cases from regional specialists for different markets.

Its profile is only 33mm, and yet it feels robust on the wrist, particularly compared to other pieces of the period. Its gently sloped lugs catch the light without drawing attention to themselves. The silver dial follows suit.
