Returns must be shipped via overnight or priority international service, fully insured, and at the buyer’s expense. A label will be provided and a restocking fee may apply. All returns must be received in the original condition as when shipped.

By 1942, Longines had already spent decades building its reputation in Saint-Imier, producing refined Swiss watches with a strong technical foundation and a particularly sure hand for elegant design. This rectangular curved-case wristwatch belongs to that wartime period when timepieces were becoming in standard use while still carrying the formality and graphic confidence of the Art Deco years just before it.

While the term “Curvex” is most closely associated with Gruen, whose curved cases and specially shaped movements helped define the form in the 1930s, the broader curved rectangular wristwatch became an important design language across the industry. The curved rectangular case was also strongly associated with Movado, Cartier, and Patek Philippe. Movado’s Polyplan, introduced in 1912, is an important early example because it used a curved case and movement. Cartier’s Tank Cintrée, introduced in 1921, is probably the most famous luxury expression of the form, with an elongated case curved to sit on the wrist. Patek Philippe’s Gondolo family also belongs in the conversation because of its early 20th-century rectangular, tonneau, and shaped-case watches tied to Art Deco design. The embrace of this wrist-hugging profile was seen as a refined expression of late Art Deco taste, part of a wider period fascination with elongated cases, architectural lines, and watches that felt elegant, modern, and tailored to the wrist.

The original silver dial features amazing gold-colored Breguet numerals, leaf-style hands, an outer railroad minute track, and a small seconds register at 6 o’clock. It has aged visibly but attractively, with patination and some spotting, most notably toward the upper right of the dial. Rather than working against the watch, its patination provides honest character and totally unique depth.

Inside is a manually wound Longines calibre 8LN with 17 jewels, recently serviced. t is fitted to a light brown, period-correct aftermarket pigskin strap, which suits the warm case tone and keeps the whole watch feeling relaxed and casual, though it could easily be dressed up with a dark, exotic leather.
