Movado’s Calendograf belongs to one of the most interesting chapters in the brand’s early wristwatch history. Introduced around 1938, the Calendograf was Movado’s original triple-calendar line, powered here by the manually wound calibre 475, a 15-jewel movement made to display the day, month, and date in a compact, highly legible format. At a time when calendar watches were still practical tools, Movado's design language managed to present the complication with distinct elegance and joy.

This 1940s example is especially appealing for its Acvatic Borgel case. Borgel cases occupy an important place in watch history, with François Borgel’s screw-case construction helping advance dust and moisture protection well before modern waterproof cases became standard. Top-tier brands like Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin also ordered Borgel cases. The watch therefore offers a refined mid-century Swiss calendar movement housed in a case associated with durability, technical progress, and the highest tier of quality. The stepped stainless steel case measures 33mm across and 40mm lug to lug, giving it the balanced, small-but-wearable proportions that define many of the best mid-century watches. 

The dial is the heart of the watch. Its patinated silver surface carries luminous Arabic numerals, luminous index hands, a blue outer date track, and a red minute track, creating a dial that is busy in function but calm in composition. The day and month apertures bring symmetry to the upper half, while the pointer date adds a useful flash of color and movement around the edge. The aging appears honest and attractive, giving the watch the sort of warmth that cannot be reproduced without time.

Condition is a strong part of the appeal here.
