Every GAUTHIER timepiece comes with a one-year mechanical warranty starting from the date of delivery. We ensure all watches are in excellent working condition and are ready for daily wear. They have been fully serviced by our team of expert watchmakers or inspected for recent skilled service.

Timepieces are packed in our Los Angeles showroom, and then shipped with fully-insured 1 or 2-Day shipping via FedEx within 5 business days of purchase. An adult signature is required upon delivery to ensure coverage. Expedited shipping options are available for an additional fee. For clients in Los Angeles, we’re pleased to offer in-person delivery or showroom pickup by appointment.

Returns must be shipped via overnight or priority international service, fully insured, and at the buyer’s expense. A label will be provided and a restocking fee may apply. All returns must be received in the original condition as when shipped.

Shaped watches from the 1940s exude a certain confidence, freed from the conventions of the round case. Their designers treated the wristwatch as a piece of architecture with which they could play with proportion, geometry and the transition between case and strap. This rectangular Movado is an especially compelling expression of that period.

The solid 14k yellow-gold case is beautifully constructed, with slanted sides and sculptural hooded lugs that appear to fold over the strap. Its proportions and finishing recall the shaped Patek Philippe watches of the era, without feeling derivative. It's distinctly Movado, at its absolute finest. At 24mm wide and 37mm from lug to lug, it wears larger than a standard Cartier Tank, while maintaining graceful vertical presence, with a still-slim 8.2mm profile allows it to sit elegantly against the wrist. A crisply defined Swiss squirrel hallmark further confirms the quality of the casework.

The silvered dial provides the watch with much of its character. Applied, gold-colored Breguet numerals evoke warmth and animation to its surface, their expressive forms balanced by sharp dauphine hands and a rectangular subsidiary-seconds register at six o’clock. The dial has developed an attractive, even patina through oxidation, softening the composition without obscuring its original detail.

It is an interesting watch from every angle: restrained at first glance, yet full of small architectural flourishes on closer inspection. Even the lugs, which appear to not be particularly engaging from the front or back of the case, when viewed from the side, takes the form of a teardrop.

This is the sort of vintage watch whose price is difficult to reconcile with its quality. A solid-gold shaped case of this complexity, an original Breguet-numeral dial and a respected Swiss movement would command at least double or triple the price were another name printed beneath twelve o'clock. For the collector willing to look beyond the most familiar signatures, it represents an unusually persuasive combination of design, substance and value.
