Timepieces are packed in our Los Angeles showroom, and then shipped with fully-insured 1 or 2-Day shipping via FedEx within 5 business days of purchase. An adult signature is required upon delivery to ensure coverage. Expedited shipping options are available for an additional fee. For clients in Los Angeles, we’re pleased to offer in-person delivery or showroom pickup by appointment.

Returns must be shipped via overnight or priority international service, fully insured, and at the buyer’s expense. A label will be provided and a restocking fee may apply. All returns must be received in the original condition as when shipped.

Movado’s early wristwatches reveal a maker deeply interested in the relationship between mechanics and form. The Polyplan of 1912, with its movement constructed on three planes to accommodate a curved case, exemplified that ambition. Dating to the 1930s, this rectangular Chronomètre belongs to a particularly expressive chapter of the firm’s history, bringing together architectural case design and the decorative flourishes of traditional watchmaking.

The case is considerably more nuanced than its rectangular outline initially suggests. Broad, gently swelling flanks frame the straight-sided dial opening, tapering toward angular shoulders and elongated lugs. These contrasting surfaces give the watch a sculptural quality, with the bevels catching the light and emphasizing the transition from case to strap. Viewed in profile, a subtle longitudinal curve and downward-sloping lugs soften the geometry further. It is an appealing balance of structure and fluidity, unmistakably of its period without feeling overly ornamental.

The silvered dial provides a wonderfully expressive counterpoint. Its Breguet-style numerals are beautifully rendered, with bold strokes, curling terminals, and an almost calligraphic character. Rather than appearing delicate or diminutive, they possess a substantial presence that complements the broad proportions of the case. A rectangular railway minute track brings order to the composition, while the similarly shaped subsidiary seconds register at six repeats the surrounding geometry in miniature. Across the surface, warm, mottled patina adds texture and a tangible sense of age.

Particularly compelling are the broad, blued sword hands. Their assertive silhouettes contrast with the flourishes of the numerals, while their blue reflections introduce a striking note of color against the aged silver ground. Above them, the dial’s typography rewards closer inspection: the finely serifed “CHRONOMÈTRE” designation sits over a fluid, slightly slanted “MOVADO” signature. The former introduces the language of precision; the latter brings a lighter, more expressive touch. Together, these small details contribute as much to the watch’s character as its unusual case.
